Lack of confidence, being in a state of constant self-doubt, having anxiety and uncertainty are things we have all struggled with and try to deal with on a daily basis. These feelings are part of what makes us get up and go to work every day. We are driven by security and pleasure while avoiding pain. Pain can take many forms; from physical (i.e. Hunger: most basic form) to the pain of not living up to our potential (i.e. Psychological).
The late, great Steve Job’s had many fears and insecurities. Mr. Jobs feared that his inventions would be forgotten as soon as something new took its place. Mr. Jobs also had an aversion to buttons (“koumpounophobia”), hence he wore turtlenecks and his products were touch-screen based. These fears and insecurities made Steve Jobs one of the greatest inventors in history.
Most successful people use insecurity and self-doubt as their main motivation to become better each day. If you ask most successful entrepreneurs they will tell you that it’s not just about gaining wealth, but it’s about avoiding their biggest fears. Insecurities and lack of confidence are so deep-seeded that successful people will never settle. Their journey is never-ending, and that’s a good thing. Success is a process, self-improvement is a road we travel every day.
Sometimes these insecurities can become debilitating and we are at the mercy of our self-doubt. Unable to take action to overcome them, allowing these negative thoughts to take control of our situation. It is cliché to say, “Turn your negative thoughts into your greatest ally.” We’ve all heard these words before, but how?
1. Acknowledge: Don’t face your insecurities; Acknowledge them. Realize they exist, write them down, feel them wholeheartedly and understand they are personal to you.

2. Mindset: Get to know yourself and your tendencies and tweak your mindset. If you believe that you are not good enough to get a raise at work because of you are_______ (insert reason), then understand that this statement may be true to you today, it doesn’t mean it is true tomorrow. Know that these are only your thoughts and may or may not be the reality. Think differently, give yourself a chance to be successful.

3. Action: You can talk all day about how you will do this and that. And how one day you will become someone. But what are you doing today to make sure that happens “one day” in the future? Action speaks volumes. Put down the remote, turn off the game console and put on your clothes and shoes and go for a walk. This simple step of walking will be your first step towards taking action for a better situation. Develop small habits that encourage action will be key to creating change. Whether these habits are walking and reflecting, or making a short list of to-do’s and following through each – do it and do it consistently.
